Airline Flight Information for Adelaide - Port Lincoln

Currently only one regional airline carrier provides regular daily flight services between Adelaide and Port Lincoln. This is a relatively quick 45 minute flight, compared with an alternative 7 hour car drive, or a 10 hour bus ride from Adelaide. On some off peak flight times, a special budget rate is offered. This is well worth taking advantage of if/when available! A recent announcement has been made that from February 2010 QANTAS Link flights will commence.

There is approximately a 15-20 minute (AU$25-30) Taxi ride from the Port Lincoln Airport to Port Lincoln accommodation or to the vessel berthed at Lincoln Cove Marina. Please contact us immediately before your flight departure from Adelaide if you are interested in any opportunities to meet up with other incoming passengers potentially on the same flight to share a taxi.

Baggage allowance: Passengers with extra heavy diving and camera bags/cases, please ask us about options on how to get your heavy or extra gear to/from Port Lincoln to avoid possible excess baggage problems. Excess baggage may be charged at approx. AUD$3.30/Kg and then only when space allows (see terms with carrier).

To reduce your baggage, please consider hiring all SCUBA and camera equipment on the vessel. Also note that you can minimize bringing extra changes of clothing as we have a washing machine and clothes-dryer onboard for complimentary use.

By Car

Hiring a car for a weekly rate or driving from Adelaide may be a great budget option for those with several people in their group, such as a family, or those wishing to take in some of the South Australian countryside. The drive to Port Lincoln from Adelaide is however 640km long and normally takes about 7 hours.

Take Highway 1 north to Port Augusta, turn west on to the Eyre Hwy (1) and continue to the turn off for the Lincoln Hwy via Whyalla.

Alternatively, a ferry operates from Wallaroo to Lucky Bay, with Sea SA Ferry. The ferry operates saves about 3 hours off the drive time from Adelaide.

Bus Information

Be aware that this trip by coach is a 10 hour long Journey and is only slightly cheaper than some of the budget flights.  The advantages though, are that you can carry extra baggage, than on the plane, and that busing home you need not be concerned about the "24 Hour No Fly Time"  if you are a SCUBA diver that has done a lot of the deep dives in our submersible shark cage on the previous afternoon.
